Ieder persoon wordt op een gegeven moment geconfronteerd met het bestaan van hun lichaam en moet zich er dan toe leren verhouden. Of je lichaam nou een kooi is of een vervoersmiddel, of het je zijn begrenst of het juist verbinding biedt met de wereld om je heen, of het nou is wie je echt bent of slechts de zak vlees die je toevallig met je meesleept.
De deelnemende kunstenaars zijn Emmie Liebregts, Valentijn Schmitz, Britt Dorenbosch, Mary Maggic en Samar Khan, Quinn Zeljak en Raoul Titulaer.
Hoe we ons verhouden tot de wereld en onszelf als stoffelijke wezens is een centraal thema in veel stromingen binnen de hedendaagse filosofie en kunst. In Any Body There richten Quinn Zeljak en Raoul Titulaer hun blik op dit thema. Na vele verhitte discussies over de vraag of het mogelijk is om het wezen en het lichaam gelijk te stellen, is Quinns conclusie dat we waarschijnlijk een lichaam hebben en is Raoul er nog niet over uit. Wat zich in theorie soms voordoet als een onvermijdelijke waarheid, komt in de praktijk niet altijd overeen met onze ervaring. In hun respectievelijke velden van beeldende kunst en filosofisch onderzoek gaat hun beider werk dieper in op dit spanningsveld.
Wij zijn allemaal de relatie met ons lichaam aan het navigeren, maar ondertussen maakt de maatschappij de politieke kwestie van het zijn of hebben van een lijf onontkoombaar. Of dit nou betrekking heeft op je gender, een handicap, je seksualiteit of je etniciteit, onze lichamen bestaan niet in een vacuüm. Om deze veelvoud aan verschillende lichamen en lichamelijke ervaringen te bevatten is dan ook een pluralistische aanpak nodig. De complexiteit van deze verhouding tussen onszelf en ons lichaam vraagt niet alleen om andere gezichtspunten, maar zelfs om andere manieren van kijken. Daarom hebben we kunstenaars en denkers uitgenodigd om hun licht te werpen op deze veelzijdige verhouding en zo hopen we samen een interdisciplinaire rekenschap te bieden van hoe wij (in) onze lichamen zijn.
In Any Body There komt het spanningsveld tussen het zijn en hebben van een lijf centraal te staan; we zullen niet alle antwoorden in petto hebben, maar we zullen met plezier de vragen te lijf gaan.

Every person is confronted with the existence of their body and has to find some way of relating to it. Whether your body is a cage or a vehicle, whether it marks the edges of your being or initiates points of contact, whether it is authentically you or the sack of meat you happen to carry around. You are hereby invited to come and consider these questions at this art exhibition that explicitly deals with them.
The participating artists are Emmie Liebregts, Valentijn Schmitz, Britt Dorenbosch, Mary Maggic en Samar Khan, Quinn Zeljak en Raoul Titulaer.
How we relate to the world and ourselves as material beings is a centrally important theme in many contemporary currents of both philosophy and the arts. Any Body There is an attempt by Quinn Zeljak and Raoul Titulaer to take a closer look at this. After many heated arguments on the possibility of completely equating the self to its body, they found that what sometimes presents itself as an inevitable truth theoretically, often doesn’t line up with our experience. In their respective fields of the visual arts and philosophical research, both of their work is situated within this tension.
While we all navigate our relationship with our body, society makes the politics of being or having one unavoidable. Whether it is your gender, a disability, your sexuality, or ethnicity, our bodies do not exist in a vacuum. Therefore, addressing the many differences in bodies and bodily experiences demands a pluralistic approach. The complexity of this tension calls not only for different viewpoints, but for different ways of seeing altogether. Different viewpoints offered through the work of participating artists and thinkers Britt Dorenbosch, Emmie Liebregts, Samar Khan, Valentijn Schmitz, Raoul Titulaer, and Quinn Zeljak are jointly presented to offer a transdisciplinary glimpse at what such a pluralistic approach could look like.
